There have been way too many threads out there picking VP candidates and even quite a bit on naming prospective Cabinet members. But I haven't seen any threads out there for the party planners who want to schedule the convention. The keynote speaker, the speakers allocated to primetime, the theme for the night, even the singer(s) who belt out the national anthem are all choices that have to be made. There are usually three big TV days. Let's hear how Kossacks would plan the party.
Day 1
The Also rans
The Rabble Rousers
The Shameless Pandering
The Keynote Speaker
We all know Rev. Al wants a primetime address. I say give him his 15 minutes and not much more. He'll say something worthwhile, have his 15+ minutes and we can be done with him. Bunch him in between Carol M-B, Kucinich, and Gephardt.
I would give Edwards, Dean and Clark more featured time along with a couple of upcoming Senate candidates.
If Latino votes are the big focus this year, then I'd make Loretta Sanchez the keynote speaker She speaks well, seems to have ambitions for higher office (maybe DiFi's successor?), and represents the progressive wing of the party well. Loretta would also be a nice tip to the Deaniacs as I believe she was an early supporter.
Day 2
The Would Be,
Has Been, and
Should Be Presidents !
Hillary Clinton
Bill Clinton
Al Gore (with short intros by Joe Lieb and Tipper)
The only issue is whether Al or Bill should be the featured speaker of the evening. I say give it to Al because we all know this week should've been his shining moment so he deserves it.
Day 3
Boston Politicians Come Home
From JFK to JFK
In addition to this being Kerry's Big Night, Teddy Kennedy is owed a primetime address in his home town and I'd put a bunch of other Kennedys up on that stage too.
Oh, and National Anthems by: Bruce Springsteen, Dixie Chicks, and....Beyonce !
